Career Management 3.0 and 51 Alternatives to a Real Job

Career Management 3.0 and 51 Alternatives to a Real Job I shared this with my LinkedIn Group on Tuesday.  If you want to get announcements earlier, join that Group. Also, I left my email signature in there so you can see what it currently is This week I should finish editing the 51 Alternatives to a Real Job book, which include stories and tips from people doing them. It has been an overwhelming project to talk to people who are living their dream and making money outside of the cubicle world. Is this interesting to you? I hope to get a page up to prepurchase in the next month or two. I also hope to ship the books this summer. Im anxious to be done and get this inspiration out to people who are so frustrated in the job search. Some of you know I call JibberJobber Career Management 2.0 Let me share why, and how that relates to the book. Career Management 1.0 is the old, traditional stuff we used to do, where we could count on companies to have some loyalty. Career Management 2.0 is where we are now, where we have taken a lot more responsibility for our careers. Networking and personal branding have A LOT to do with that. Career Management 3.0 is where we really introduce multiple revenue streams to our portfolio, and a job is just one of them. It might be the largest, but it doesnt have to be the most important. I predict this is where we are headed. 51 Alternatives to a real job is all about Career Management 3.0. If you want to naively trust your company to provide your income through retirement, go for it. If you want to be more empowered, and less submissive to forces outside of your control, then implement Career Management 3.0! Sound interesting? Let me know. Finally, Dick Bolles has been the name in Career Management and job search for decades. He wrote What Color Is Your Parachute, and refuses to let his publisher edit it. He does the writing and editing. Im going to interview him on Tuesday morning and you are invited to come. If you have any questions you want me to ask, let me know. Otherwise, come and hear from a legend in this field. No charge. https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/600990794 Have a great week! ~!~!~!~!~ Jason Alba ::  http://JibberJobber.com Organize your Job Search ::  http://ImOnLinkedInNowWhat.com THE LinkedIn Book DVD ::  http://JibberJobber.com/webinar Ask The Expert and User webinars ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Career Management 3.0 and 51 Alternatives to a Real Job I shared this with my LinkedIn Group on Tuesday.  If you want to get announcements earlier, join that Group. 6 Things to do in your 20s to make your 30s good

6 Things to do in your 20s to make your 30s good Why do people spend so much time telling you a  list of books to read in your twenties  or a  list of places to go in your twenties?   Those are actually ways only to  escape  your twenties. Escaping by doing that stuff just sets you up for a disaster in your thirties. Here are things to do in your twenties to make your thirties fun. 1.   Build a career that enables you to work from home. The best way to get control of your life is  working from home,  because once youre home, then things start to  shift in favor of you  instead of your company. But there are relatively few types of jobs that translate to a career from home.   Survey the types of careers that are typical of at-home workers and set yourself up for one of them. Almost every person who is working from home  either works very hard in their twenties to build their own business  or they  worked hard in their twenties to specialize  so that it was too costly for the company to replace them. So when they ask, it is easier to let them work from home. 2.   Women, freeze your embryos. Im actually a fan of approaching your biological clock head-on  instead of procrastinating by freezing your eggs. That seems like you’re just putting off the inevitable realities of having a family.  Nothing changes when the eggs are frozen except that you build a bigger career that you must scale back when you do have kids. But sometimes really bad things happen to us, like your whole family burns up in a fire and you have to go to six years of therapy, and you cant start dating until youre thirty-one. So for cases like this, or less extreme, its good to just have your embryos saved. Why doesnt everybody just  save embryos? It’s kind of like  cord blood. Its what rich people do to avoid calamitous medical situations. 3.   Build muscle. You already know that good-looking people get the best jobs and a wider selection of partners. What you didnt know is that you can kind of buy yourself some time if youve been lifting weights really hard-core the whole time in your twenties. Muscle  just sort of lingers on  so you can do mostly lame workouts in your thirties if you lifted weights in your twenties.  This plan allows you a lot more flexibility. It allows you to have years when you dont work out because youre trying to rearrange your life, and it makes all transitions easier to know that your body isnt falling apart when youre doing them. 4.  Go visit your siblings.   Its really not that fun to stay in touch with your siblings in your twenties because everybody  uses that time to separate from their parents and build their own identity. And this is the time when people are in the most denial that  they are like their parents  and  will marry someone like their parents. So a way to stay in denial as long as possible is to avoid siblings, because siblings can always tell  when youre acting like your parents. The problem is that a fascinating study from Harvard  reveals  that the only indicator of who will be happy and who wont later in life is who remains close to their siblings. So you might think that whats really going to make you happy is to be hot enough to get into exclusive clubs, but that doesnt last. Your siblings are what lasts. So go visit them when you have time off. 5.   Dont stress about relocation. Its overwhelming to think youre twenty-two and  you can live anywhere. Unfortunately, its not actually true. Its true that you  can  live anywhere, but its not true that youre going to  want  to live just anywhere. After you have kids youre going to want to live where your family is because this is what happens:  Nobody really cares about your kids. In fact, nobody even likes other peoples kids. They like their own kids. The exception to this is family. Family loves other family. We love our nieces and nephews and grandkids similarly to our own kids, so  youre going to want to be near family. Youre going to relocate to family when you realize none of your friends actually care about your kids. You’ll know because theyre not inviting you for holidays anymoretheyre going to see family on holidays because they want someone to dote on their kids. 6. Your twenties are not practice time. Its your life. So dont worry about relocation. Its playing in the world of false choices. Meg Jay has a great Ted Talk about how people in their twenties spend too much time making dead-end decisions that they pretend dont count. Instead, focus on using a systematic way to try new jobs and new relationships to figure where you fit. And dont worry that things dont feel right  in your twenties because everything happens so fast. You know how people always say to you, “Oh, my gosh, youve grown up so fast.” Well,  time speeds up as you get older, and youre not going to believe how fast your twenties are over. So much of what people in their 20s focus on is how they look to the world right now. Its why Facebook rules the day, and street photographer James Maher named his photo (up top) The Pose of a Generation. But all that Facebook-induced,  short-term thinking leads to depression. Take your life seriously enough to be able to share difficulties and failures. And remember that the best decisions you can make are ones that will last into your thirties. That way, you know you are doing things in your twenties that will matter.

How Short Term Loan Platforms Can Ease Life in Finland

How Short Term Loan Platforms Can Ease Life in Finland Monetary problems can crop up literally anytime in life and when they do, you feel perplexed. This can happen to people from various job profiles and even those with balanced spending habits can be affected by a cash crunch. Factors that lead to such situations include credit card debt, employment issues or a serious ailment etc. However, you need the supply of the required amount of money to ride over a monetary emergency situation. You may seek bank loans but they are not so easy to obtain anymore. Short term online lenders in Finland come across as better alternative. Why short term loans? Earlier, getting bank loans was not much complicated but in recent times the scenario has changed. You will have to cope up with hassles like extensive documentation and prolonged processing time for bank loans, even if the amount is not much. This has made people in Finland looking for better options. The short-term online lending companies have come as a savior for cash-strapped people. You can count on services of entities like ePikavippi for such needs. Advantages galore and easily available There are reasons behind thousands of women and men in Finland opting for short term online loans over bank loans in recent years. You will get several advantages by seeking services of these online lending entities: When you are in cash crunch, waiting for loan approvals is something you will hate. But this can happen with bank loans. If you find the bank is refusing your loan on some ground after making you wait, it feels terrible. With short-term online lenders this hassles simply does not exist. If you meet their requirements, the processing time is less. Extensive documentation is something you cannot evade when applying for loans from any bank nowadays. However, Finnish short term lending entities do not require a lot of documents to sanction you loans. They will ask for income proof and address proof along with few other documents. Once you submit these, the processing is done promptly. You are likely to receive the loan on the same day and some people receive the money within a couple of hours. You may have a poor credit score and this can be a major drawback when you apply for typical bank loans. Banks may refuse your loan on this ground. But Finnish online lenders do not as queries about credit record of applicants. The flexibility of the Finnish online lenders is also a reason for their growing popularity. They can offer you loans as low as 100 euros and some people also opt for 2000 euros. You can pay back the amount within specified duration. You may ask them about the prospect of getting another loan when you have borrowed once. A platform for comparison It is better if you use an online platform to assess services of Finnish online lenders. Platforms like ePikavippi come in handy in these situations. You can find out details of services of short-term lenders under one umbrella. This makes the selection process easier and saves time too. . Image credits. Main.     Loans.

Let's assume that you have a resume that is full of relevant skills and accomplishments. If you were to send it to a prospective employer, you are hoping that they will see an applicant that has all of the qualities that they are looking for. Most likely, you have a resume filled with great skills and experiences. This is certainly the case if you are applying for a mana gement position. However, what if your resume did not exactly grab the attention of a potential employer? 4 Donts in Your Resignation Letter - Wolfgang Career Executive Coaching

4 Donts in Your Resignation Letter - Wolfgang Career Executive Coaching Heres a piece by a client of mine who learned some lessons just as he was submitting his two-week notice resignation letter!  Remember, with a new job you are moving toward something, not running away from something. That is the mindset to write your resignation letter. -Coach Wolfgang Recently, I turned in my two weeks notice at work via a resignation letter. It felt like an eternity to get my new offer letter but it finally came in. For weeks, I envisioned peoples reactions and dreamed of how my two week notice letter would shock them! I daydreamed about all the things I would be free to say and how I would show my managers their mistakes. Well, the day came around and all those thoughts of scorning my company and managers left a bad feeling in my gut. Fortunately! I could have made some real mistakes and I feel compelled to warn others who were thinking of doing so. Dont be rude in your resignation letter Dont bash your boss either as a person, manager, strategist or friend. Dont tell them how their plans were all wrong and dont tell them how all your mistakes are their fault. Dont be a jerk! Dont, dont, dont tell them that you are resigning because of some personal beef you have with them or a co-worker. If you are not coming up with reasons to be courteous in your resignation letter then consider what you have to gain by being rude. Usually, not much. I do feel it is okay to give feedback that will help your boss and, potentially, your co-workers. For example, I said that I had stuck with the company through a lot of transition and went above and beyond many times but felt that the ~1% raise and diminishing annual bonus made me feel that my contributions were not seen as important. Give your boss something to fix and work on in your two week notice letter. This productive information can also be shared in an exit interview. Dont blow off your job duties Dont decline all of your meetings, or even most  of them. Continue to attend the ones where your input will be meaningful or at the very least, helpful. Dont stop replying to emails or not being helpful in your replies. Continue performing your recurring duties until you have a replacement and then you can spend time training your replacement. Remember, the two-week notice is meant for you to transition out of your orle, not stop working. Dont, dont, dont start making yourself unavailable to those who need your assistance. Since you are still on the payroll, theres an expectation that you will maintain your performance. Do your best to do so and  your co-workers will remember you positively. You just dont know who will be a part of you getting the next job it may just be a referral or endorsement you arent aware of! Im not saying you need to put in a bunch of overtime but ease down slowly and make others realize that you were (and are) a solid hire. Dont sabotage your projects Dont withhold important information on your projects. Dont make it difficult for your replacement to step in. Dont forget to inform your vendors and other co-workers involved in your projects. Dont, dont, dont leave your boss in a lurch after you leave. Imagine 10 years from now. You are on the job hunt again and your are interviewing for an awesome position. Now imagine that your current boss is best friends with the hiring manager! Do you think youll get the job based on their recommendation? If not, now is a good time to correct that. Take the next two weeks to surprise your superiors and leave a lasting impression. For example, its smart to create  an overview document along with the status and next steps for all of your projects to hand-off to your manager or replacement.  Dont be shady Leave all the equipment and supplies at the company. Now is not the time to stock up on post-it notes and staplers. If you are remote, dont hang on to your laptop as a sign of discontent. Take your training materials, the badges from your conferences and business cards youve collected but dont take a bunch of strategy docs out of the office. Dont, dont, dont run up a bunch of personal charges on your company credit card! You probably spent a lot of time at your job trying to impress co-workers, your boss, your executives, etc. If you want to make them realize that they lost a good employee, then uphold and solidify their impression. Be proactive and take their requests seriously. You are resigning from the job but your behavior will stay with your former co-workers long after youve left! If you are leaving a job that was frustrating and potentially frustrating for a long time, its tempting to burn bridges, say hurtful things in your resignation letter and check out over the next two weeks. I know Ive been there! But stop and think about what benefit youll get, rather, what benefit your career will get. If you dont see a benefit then its best to pass. Have you burned bridges on your last day at work? Tell us the good and the bad below!
